Tethis was born in 2004 as a spin-off company of the University of Milan. In 2005 it became part of the Genextra Group, a biotechnology holding company founded by Francesco Micheli, fostering the development of new products that crosslink nano- and biotechnologies. By 2009 the new shareholder Atlante Ventures, the Intesa Sanpaolo Group’s venture-capital fund, participate in the company alongside other minority-interest shareholders.
